Press Release
Human rights are severely violated in Iran. Since the mass protests after the fraudulous presidential elections in 2009, numerous cases of torture, rape, arrests, forced confessions, intimidations and executions have been reported. The international press is banned, the Iranian journalists oppressed or imprisoned. It is virtually impossible to bring accurate news
from within the country. The exiled Iranians however, being in contact with their relatives and friends in Iran, are very well informed. They describe the ongoing offences against human rights activists, relatives of prisoners, students, journalists, lawyers and all those who are fighting for human rights in Iran. The only chance for the people of Iran to escape from the nightmare of humiliation, suppression and threats is to draw the public’s attention not only in Iran but especially in the Western society.
Since July 2009, the manifestation ‘A face for human rights in Iran’ has been held in various European cities. It is an ongoing action to inform the people in the West and to show the Iranian government that their human rights abuses don’t pass unnoticed in the shadow of the nuclear negotiations. In many actions thousands of Western people already showed their face and videos of the events have been published on You Tube. Via Facebook more and more activists join the idea of this action.
On Saturday November 13, The International Committee for the Rights of Students and Sufi’s in Iran, Amnesty International Frankfurt and Solidarity with Mothers of Laaleh Park will ask passers-by to show their face in Frankfurt at the Alte Oper. At the same day,
similar actions will be held in other cities as well.
Posters and videos will be published on the Internet also accessible for the Iranian society. The message we would like to bring: we see what the Iranian regime does to its citizens. We protest against violence and torture, distortions and libel under which
many people in Iran suffer.
The main action will take place in Frankfurt and is jointly organized and supported by the three organizations. In Cologne, Oslo, Florence and Siena, the responsible organization is The Grieving Mothers of Laleh Park. In Munich, members of Amnesty International/United4Iran will be active and in London, Stockholm and Copenhagen the action is organized by The International Committee for the rights of Students and Sufi’s’ in
Iran.
